BRIAN SCHWAB

THE EXPERTISE

Brian’s enjoyment of lifting began in 1988 when he was only 14 years old as a freshman in high school. The low ceilings and lack of windows were intimidating to most, but he felt at home in the high school weight room. Upon his first visit to the cramped, musty space he was able to bench 135. You may laugh and think that’s nothing, but when he was only 5 foot 3 and 98 lbs., it was everything. From his strength he gained respect and knew he had found his place. It wasn’t long after this that he realized that he wanted to help others gain the strength and confidence that he had through the assistance of the iron.

He went on to receive his Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise and Sport Sciences from the University of Florida and became a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).  He also became a competitive Powerlifter, breaking over 35 world records, the most prestigious of which is the highest all-time equipped total of 1930 at 148 with a 765 squat, 565 bench and a 600 deadlift, which he still holds.  He also has the 4th highest total of 2045 in the 165 lb. class which he achieved with an 825 squat, 605 bench and a 615 deadlift. He also competed single ply with best lifts of a 722 squat, a 435 bench and a 584 deadlift.

Brian is also one of the few successful equipped lifters who competed raw.  He won the 148 lb class at the 2009 Raw Unity Meet with best lifts of a 501 squat, a 325 bench and a 551 deadlift for a 1377 total.  He also won the APF Raw Nationals at the Europa in 2011 in the 165 lb class with best lifts of a 534 squat, a 352 bench and a 584 deadlift for a 1471 total.  Brian competed in over 50 meets over the course of his competitive career from 1995 to 2016.

Brian has now been personal training for over 26 years, strength training for more than 34 years, and was a competitive Powerlifter for over 20 years. He has been a featured athlete on Orlando’s Wesh News channel 2, published three articles for Powermag Magazine, has been featured in numerous issues of Powerlifting USA, and was a sponsored powerlifter for EliteFTS where he posted his training log here: www.elitefts.com/author/brian-schwab/.
